It
highlights the main achievements for 2024 in the areas of
environmental protection, regional development and human capital,
industrial safety and corporate governance, as well as the company’s
revolutionary contribution to achieving carbon neutrality in diamond
mining.
The company is continuing to strengthen its
leading position in the sustainable development agenda of the diamond
industry, annually improving its non-financial reporting system in
accordance with national development goals and the implementation of
Russia’s socio-economic development programs to 2030, as well as
best international practices in the mining industry.
“ALROSA’s
2024 Sustainability Report reflects the results of the efforts
made by the ALROSA team in ensuring the stable and uninterrupted
operation of the ñompany. ALROSA continues to ensure stable,
long-term development of the national diamond industry, human
resources, and the regions where it operates. I am confident that
relying on our own production capacities, a professional and
well-coordinated team, and close interaction with local communities
will enable us to achieve our sustainable development goals,” said
ALROSA CEO Pavel Marinychev.
Some of the biggest challenges and opportunities
for the diamond industry are related to its sustainability and
ability to demonstrate a positive impact across the entire supply
chain, including in the context of priority carbon neutrality goals.
Serious scientific research into the absorption capacity of
kimberlite enabled ALROSA to achieve carbon neutrality for its
diamond complex in 2024 for the first time, and in June 2025, carbon
neutrality of all diamonds mined by the company, which was a
unique achievement, not only for the global diamond industry. This is
the world’s first recognized case of carbon-neutral industrial
production.
In 2024, the company’s Supervisory Board
approved ALROSA Group’s Climate Strategy until 2035, which
stipulates a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by more than 9%.
In 2024, the company allocated a total of 1.2 billion rubles to
implement its Climate Strategy. An Environmental Strategy was
also approved.
To reduce its climate impact, the company is
implementing measures to improve operational efficiency. In 2024,
these measures saved ALROSA more than 1 billion rubles in fuel and
energy resources and prevented the emission of nearly 33,000 tonnes
of greenhouse gases.
In 2024, the company continued to switch its car
and passenger vehicles, as well as its industrial machinery, to more
environmentally friendly compressed natural gas (CNG). CNG replaced
40% of gasoline and 60% of diesel fuel. The company purchased 54
CNG-powered vehicles as part of its equipment upgrade and renewal
program.
During the reporting year, ALROSA approved a new
Sustainable Development Program for 2025–2029. The Program retains
the key strategic priorities identified in an analysis of the Group’s
risks and impacts on sustainable development and the national ESG
agenda. It combines human capital development, occupational health
and safety, and industrial safety objectives into a single strategic
direction aimed at creating decent and safe working conditions for
the ñompany’s employees. The scope of the 2025–2029 Program has
been expanded from five companies in the diamond complex to the
entire ALROSA Group. The 2025–2029 Program maintains the ñompany’s
commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, 13 of which have
been identified as priorities.
ALROSA is continuing to provide jobs for residents
of the regions where it operates. In 2024, the ñompany employed
6,600 people as part of the Local Talent for Industry program.
Continuing to implement charitable and social
projects and long-term programs, in 2024 ALROSA approved a
Comprehensive Program for the Development and Support of Indigenous
Minority Peoples of the North.
Measures were implemented as part of 20 agreements
on socio-economic development with local communities, as well as
agreements with regional authorities, aimed at modernizing regional
infrastructure, among other things.
As previously, ALROSA’s focus remains on caring
for its employees, which consists of providing decent and safe
working conditions and extended social guarantees and support. In
2024, ALROSA allocated 3.2 billion rubles to social programs,
increasing funding by 11% compared to the previous period. This
included approximately 1 billion rubles allocated to employee health
support programs, which accounted for 6% of the company’s
administrative expenses in 2024.
The company provides more detailed information on
corporate governance in its 2024 report. Sustainable development
principles are taken into account in both strategic planning and the
company’s operational activities.
In 2025, the ñompany underwent its first public
assurance procedure for its 2024 sustainability report by the Council
for Non-Financial Reporting, Indices, and Sustainability Ratings at
the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RSPP).

verification of reporting information (audit confirmation and public

public joint-stock companies. For 2024, the disclosure of performance
indicators in themed sections has been expanded.

national ESG transformation processes in Russia, including
participation in the work of regulators, professional associations,
and joint business initiatives on the relevant platforms of the
Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs and the National
Network of the UN Global Compact.
